...on Growth Mindset, FOR ADULTS... (One Thought Thursday 034)

"The greater the artist, the greater the doubt. Perfect confidence is granted to the less-talented as a consolation prize." Robert Hughes

This quote gave me a good laugh this week. Oh, may it be so. 🥂

On Monday's episode of The Beyond Measure Podcast, I put a spotlight on my own self-defeating thoughts. This was not easy to share.

Even though I *know* the struggle impacts many of us in the same way, there's always a fear that the world will finally recognize me as a crazy person and turn its back on me.

But - as always - my people (that includes you) have shown up and echoed I am not alone in this.

So, my friends, thank you. 🤍

I've been thinking a lot about Growth Mindset this week.

Growth Mindset (the opposite of a fixed mindset) is a mental posture that recognizes our ability to learn/achieve/conquer new things.

It feels like kind of a given for teachers, right? Watching students accomplish new things is our daily experience.

My familiarity with Growth Mindset comes mostly through my own children. It's big in schools (as it should be). My girls are constantly bringing home writing projects about "The Power of Yet":

"I can't do this"... yet.

"I don't understand this"...yet.

Honestly, I've always attributed this to a concept our children need to learn. But I'm realizing (in my proclaimed year of Remaining Teachable) that ADULTS are arguably in need of this lesson even more.

I'm on the hunt for limiting beliefs in my life, and I hope you'll join me.

It may take us grown-ups a little longer to learn new things than our adolescent counterparts (hello, technology!), but we *can* still learn new tricks, friends.

I'm also reminded this week of the power of saying your insecurities out loud (to a safe place, mind you. Oddly enough, mine appears to be the airwaves🤷‍♀️).

So, friends: Is there a nagging fear/belief you want to get out of your head? I'm a safe place; let me know!

Click that REPLY button and tell me! Or, if not me, schedule a meet-up with a friend, counselor, or mentor to help you shine a light on your own limiting belief.

🥂Cheers to clearing space in our head so we can keep showing up in a world who needs our magic so desperately🥂

A Favorite Thing

I highlighted this book in episode 132 during the Summer Bookshelf Tour.

Books that manage to be thoroughly-researched, yet easy-to-read are few and far between, but Vanessa Cornett nails it here.

This feels right "on brand" for everything we're talking about this week.

It also comes with access to a variety of online resources, so don't balk at the price tag.

Worth every penny.

NOW: Hit that REPLY button and tell me the insecurity YOU would like to overcome. 🥂
