Today, I Confess: Summer is Different Now.
...just a QUICK note for today:
Summer is different. I hear it from teachers and parents and caretakers... it really is a whole new ballgame. ⚾
I'll be tackling some of my thoughts on dealing with the changing landscape of summer on the podcast next month, but for now, I just want to offer solidarity.
If you feel like summer has lost its ease, that's because - for a lot of us - it has.
21st century Achievement Culture has pushed its way into summer programming, and it's changing the piano teacher landscape.
That said, I think it opens up a world of possibility that can be very good for us... if we approach it correctly.
Again, we'll tackle more of that in a future podcast. Today, I just wanted to high-five you 🖐️for making it this far AND remind you that you are in good company.
There's a lot going on in MY world, too. Here's an at-a-glance rundown of opportunities I'd like to share with you.
🙋♀️ Teachers Teaching Teachers:
- Our July session of TTT is taking place TODAY!
- I've somehow managed to assemble the A Team of teacher friends, and we meet to share ideas and problem-solve together each month.
- To get in on the fun (today at 11am, eastern time), join the "Learning Together" tier of the Patreon Community for $6.
📝 NCKP
- NCKP is NEXT WEEK!
- I'm presenting a session, The Secret Lives of Quiet Students: Strategies for Teaching the Timid on Thursday morning at 10:30am. I'd love to see you there!
- If you are attending, make sure you hit REPLY to this email and let me know. I'm keeping an actual checklist of people I need to meet and I want you to be on it.
🔎 The Paradox of Play
- We know our work carries great importance, but that doesn't mean the lesson experience should feel heavy.
- Our work is to help others find play, and I am convinced that is the most meaningful impact teachers can have on society today.
- If you are ready to learn how to prioritize true play in your lessons without compromising your standards or changing everything about your approach, please check out the presale of my newest resource: The Paradox of Play: Taking Fun Seriously
- I'll be debuting this 50+ minute session with bonus resources on August 1st, but if you want to lock-in the presale price of $29, you'll want to do so quickly.
- Read more about this session by clicking here!
🎹 Intermediate Piano Teaching Cohort
- Janna and I are thrilled with the enthusiastic response for this new offering, beginning in September.
- ICYMI, we are spending 10 weeks this fall walking through the many pitfalls of Intermediate Teaching, framed by Jeanine Jacobson's text, Professional Piano Teaching, Book 2.
- We're tackling all the things: advancing technique, rhythm, repertoire, transfer students, objectives, and more...
- Sign up here for the Early-Bird rate of $199!
🥂 May we continue to find restful moments in the flurry of all things SUMMER.🥂
