...When You Just Need to Let it Out.... (One Thought Thursday 017)

I treated myself to a salon pedicure the other day..

There was an older woman in the chair beside me, and, not long into her appointment, she burst out in uncontrollable laughter.

I mean - LOUD, boisterous, some-might-even-say-obnoxious laughter. And she didn't stop.

I know some people are exceptionally ticklish. My aunt, in fact, can't help but giggle through certain stages of the pedicure process.

But I have never heard anything quite like the way this woman was carrying on.

After awhile, we happened to lock eyes and, maybe my face gave me away. She shrugged her shoulders and said, "Sometimes it's just better to let it out."

Sometimes it's just better to let it out.

She then went back to her book, and I went back to mine. We never spoke again, though she did engage in a few more over-the-top fits of laughter.

Each time, I smiled.

Sometimes, when you want to laugh, you should just let yourself laugh. What good comes from trying to hold it in, anyway?

Obviously, the same could be said of just about any emotion, right?

I don't know about you, but as someone who has spent her life obsessing over "reading the room" and trying to show up just as people wanted me to.... well, this advice was refreshing, indeed.

So now I want to know, friend: What are you holding inside?

Is there a project you keep trying to talk yourself out of?

Fear of what others might be saying about you?

A dream you're afraid of saying out loud?

Frustration mounting over conflicts with studio families?

Hit that reply button and LET IT OUT.

Because, as my new salon friend so wisely said... Sometimes it's just better to let it out.

🥂May we all recognize the importance of showing up as our authentic selves. Whether that means fits of laughter, or sitting in silence... let us embrace our true emotions and find spaces where we can unashamedly let them out. 🥂

Episode 142 helps me get some big feelings off my chest about the limitations of method series.

Can't-Live-Without Repertoire

I'm absolutely drooling over this beautiful new Recital Collection of Gillock's work from Willis.

If you've been around here for awhile, you know I believe Gillock to be the cure for many musical ails. 😀

A Favorite Thing

I'm re-sharing this because my husband recently told me this is one of the best gifts I've given him.

(Owala bottles are either that good, or I'm a lousy gift-giver. I'll let you decide).

All kidding aside, my whole family has a fierce love for this bottle. And with my recent return to teaching (coupled with this HEAT! 😅) ... I am as thankful for this companion as I've ever been.
